Hyaluronic acid is present throughout the body. Especially in connective tissue, all fluid-filled spaces outside the cells, and the vitreous humour of the eye.
Hyaluronic acid is also an important component in fascia, which surrounds all muscles, bones and organs like a net, as well as in synovial fluid and articular cartilage.

Due to its spatial structure, it can bind a lot of water and thus contribute to the stability and friction-free movement of the joints. It supports the damping and lubricating properties of the synovial fluid.
In the skin, hyaluronic acid ensures elasticity and firmness of the connective tissue.

Hyaluronic acid only remains in the body for a short time and the body's own production decreases with age, so that external supplementation can become useful to counteract typical signs of aging such as wrinkling, joint complaints, problems in the intervertebral spaces, etc.
Other not yet sufficiently proven tasks in the body are assumed, for example in the field of wound healing, UV protection and as a radical scavenger.
